ECO-SCOUT AS A STANDARD

The standard for comprehensive environmental assessment

Above all corporations have a strong interest in making environmentally relevant decisions for business sites, processes, and products transparent and easy to follow. Here, the assessment (audit) of the existing alternatives must not be based on the subjective, individual opinion of the in-house author of the assessment, rather on the basic principles that are accessible and applicable to all.

Eco-scout ( ecological scarcity outcome) defines a central standard for companies for the creation of environmental assessments (ecological audits) and meets the requirements stated: The environmental assessments are based on the objectives and specifications of the respective leading national environmental agencies as well as clear transparency criteria for the data used; the assessments become a universal means of communication, also with customers, competitors, authorities, associations, and the public.

The ‘eco-scout’ trademark is registered for the EU and Switzerland and serves to protect the uniform assessment standard. This means that assessment methods and software solutions can only claim compliance with this standard if the criteria listed here have actually been met. The brand can be non-commercially licensed if these requirements are present and verified.

LCA-Database

Databases for LCA data (Life Cycle Assessment) must meet certain criteria so that they can be approved for the eco-scout standard.

Life cycle inventory

When preparing life cycle assessments, uniform principles for the various assignments (allocations) must be adhered to, e.g. recycling materials, by-products, energy mixes, as well as for system boundaries, avoiding double counting and more.

Software

Software providers that meet the eco-scout standard adhere to strict specifications regarding the database, inventory analysis and decleration of results (factsheet).
